This article explains the necessary configuration required to make use of Percol8 Hosted Mailbox as a service for your customers.

Step 1

  1. Request the mailbox creation by sending an email to support@tph.io confirming the following detail.
    • Customer Domain
    • The Number of users (mailboxes)
    • Persons First and Last name per mailbox
    • Any required email aliases and to which mailboxes each alias should be applied.
    • Any email forwarding required. If required please confirm the mailbox to which the forwarder must be applied, the end recipient to which the email must be forwarded and if the email must be stored and forwarded or only forwarded.
  2. The Packet Hub will configure the relevant Mailboxes and provide the credentials per mailbox.

Step 2

Once all the above has been completed you will need to update the customers domain for delivery of email to the Hosted Mailbox service.

  1. Set your customers MX record TTL of a min of 10 min preparation for change. Non mandatory but does assist with a quicker update of the MX and if required a quicker rollback.
  2. Check if the customer’s domain has an SPF record. If exists then you will need to add "_spf.percol8.co.za” to the existing SPF record. If the customer does not have an existing SPF record then it is always good to add one. You can add an SPF record for the domain as follows "v=spf1 include:_spf.percol8.co.za -all”.
  3. If you would prefer to make use your own domain as the SPF record for your customers then you will need to create the txt record as follows: _spf.<yourdomain>.14034 IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:41.79.180.0/24 ip4:41.87.228.11/32 ?all" For more details on SPF and its purpose please view here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework
  4. Update the clients MX record to point to mx1.percol8.co.za. If you would like to make use of your own domain please ensure you add an "A" record pointing to 41.79.180.20. E.g.  mx1.<yourdomain>. 600 IN A 41.79.180.20
  5. Configure the customers email client, please see settings below.

Email Client Settings IMAP:

  • Incoming Mail Server: IMAP: imap.percol8.co.za port 143 or port 993 (imaps)
  • Username: The full email address
  • Password: as provided by The Packet Hub
  • Outgoing Server:SMTP: relay.percol8.co.za port 587. Requires SMTP Authentication.

Email Client Settings POP3:

  • Incoming Mail Server: POP3: pop.percol8.co.za port 110 or port 995 (pop3s)
  • Username: The full email address
  • Password: as provided by The Packet Hub
  • Outgoing Server:SMTP: relay.percol8.co.za port 587. Requires SMTP Authentication.

If you would prefer to make use of your own FQDN you can do so by adding the relevant "A"records to your domain. Please see examples below:

  • pop.<yourdomain>. 600 IN A 41.79.180.30
  • imap.<yourdomain>. 600 IN A 41.79.180.31
